Conversations: Group Chat for SMS
The Group Chat for SMS feature in Stack allows you to effortlessly send SMS messages to multiple contacts within a single conversation. This is especially useful for businesses needing to keep several stakeholders informed simultaneously, such as real estate agents coordinating with multiple clients.

Requirements for Using Group Chat
Section titled “Requirements for Using Group Chat”To make the most of the Group Chat for SMS feature, ensure you have the following:
- A Stack phone number.
- The phone numbers must be based in the US or Canada.
How to Use Group Chat
Section titled “How to Use Group Chat”-
Navigate to Conversations:
- Head over to the Conversations section in your CRM.
- Click on Create a new message and select Group Message.

Select a Phone Number:
- Choose the Stack phone number you wish to use for sending the group SMS. Remember, it must be a US or Canada number.

Add Contacts to the Group:
- Select the contacts you want to include in the group chat. You need at least 2 and can add up to 9 participants. Both primary and secondary numbers of contacts can be added.
- Note: Contacts with Do Not Disturb (DND) enabled or those with non-US/Canada numbers cannot be added.

Compose and Send Your Message:
- Once your group is set up, type your message and hit Send. All participants will receive the message, and any replies will be visible to everyone in the group.

View Group Participants:
- At the top of the group chat window, you can see all added contacts. You can search for participants by name or number.

Check Participants:
- Use the right panel to click on the chevron next to a contact’s name to view all group participants.

Managing Group Chats:
- After creating a group, messages will continue to be sent to the initially added numbers, even if a contact is deleted or their number changes. Tags like Updated and Deleted will appear next to such contacts.
Access and Permissions
Section titled “Access and Permissions”- Users can create and view groups containing only the contacts assigned to them.
- If you have access to the phone number used for the group chat, you can send messages within that group.
Important Notes
Section titled “Important Notes”- Once a group is created, you cannot change the participants or the business phone number used for the group chat.
- If a contact in the group is deleted from your CRM, messages will still be sent to the originally added phone number.
- If a contact enables DND after the group chat is created, the group chat will be disabled. To continue messaging, you must create a new group excluding the DND participant.
