How to send data to Google Analytics within a Workflow

When using Stack, you can easily integrate Google Analytics triggers within your workflows. This allows you to track more than just page views—capture specific events like form submissions, user opt-ins, or support calls.

    • Your tracking code will be displayed here, starting with “UA.”
  1. Open Google Analytics.
  2. Click on the Admin tab.
  3. In the left-hand column, select Property Settings.
  4. Click on Property ID.
    • Your tracking code will be a number.

When you choose to add data to Google Analytics through a trigger or action, you’ll see the following fields:

  • Tracking ID/Property ID
  • Event Category
  • Event Action
  • Event Label
  • Event Value

For example, you might set the Event Category to “Form Submission,” the Action to “Exit Form Opt-in,” and the Label to “Black Friday Form Submission.” These can be dynamically set using icon tags.

Stack uses a set of rules to categorize traffic by source, checking the full page URL and referring domain. Here’s how we categorize:

Attribute Rules
utm_medium
utm_source
Google Organic Referring domain is the Google search engine.
Paid Search If the utm_source is google and the referring domain is google.com.
Facebook Referring domain is facebook.com.
Paid Social “utm_medium” contains “cpc” and utm_source is facebook.com.
Direct Traffic or Bookmarked No referring domains or tracking URLs.
Referral Referring domain is example.com.
Social Media Referring domain is a social media site like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
Display Traffic Referring domain is example.com with cmp, banner, or display parameters.

Note: If both utm_medium and utm_source are set, they will be used. If not, categorization follows the table above.
